(Resolved) Non attending CL staff

Category: Fix It

To the administrative staff.
I have been a member of the Zone for many years, and find it to be entertaining, informative, so spend a fair amount of time here.
I frequently support the site through donations, or purchases of the products offered and will continue to do so for the reasons above.
Many times members have expressed the opinion, and wish to have the non-attending CL staff removed, or demoted of their position.
We believe it to be unfair for one of these staff members to be able to log on at any time, and makes decisions.
They have no knowledge of the community and how the community has changed.
They are not aware of what has been decided and the reasons for it by the attending CL staff members.
I am the community feel this is disrespectful not only to the attending CL staff, but the community.
Community leaders are in charge of the day-to-day operation of the site, can perform basic administrative tasks, enforce the terms of service, and help with basic site questions.
They are not providing these things.
Our attending CL team is
Flidais
KC8PNL
Devilish Anthony
If this site is driven by the community, we’d like to see our attending CL members given some appreciation in this matter.

For whatever it's worth, I second this.
I don't know if CLs can remove each other or if it takes the admin to do it.
It also bears mentioning that if a CL can remove another CL, it should be pretty open and shut. I think I heard somewhere that the admins told you CLs not to change things, not to demote people...but unless they somehow have a financial lock on you, I don't see what they can do besides fire you. If they fire you, their site's dead, unless they want to dig up new CLs.
I'm mentioning this only because I think sometimes people get wrapped up in "so-and-so told me not to", without actually considering the consequences (or, more often, misunderstanding said consequences).
Either way, I'm not going to push on this. Perhaps there are details I don't know. Perhaps people have it on good authority that worse CLs would be chosen if inactives were demoted and admins fired the active ones. In which case, having inactive CLs alongside a few good ones is a hell of a lot better than having a little cluster of potentially bad ones.

Good stuff.

*sigh*, Guys, the people who created this site moved on years ago. They don't care. If they did, they'd fix the issues that impact the premium users. but they haven't, because they simply do not care anymore. Y'all know this.

I can't fault them for wanting to move on with their lives and wouldn't even be upset to learn that they complain every time someone approaches them with a Zone-related issue. I'd be willing to bet a whole lot of points that they do just that. What I do have a problem with is their continued willingness to accept money from users of a site that they no longer care about, especially since they don't even bother to fix issues relating to the experiences of said paying customers. That is not right, and that is the reason that I will never again purchase a premium membership. Furthermore, I personally believe that all new users who are not informed about the lack of support of the admins should be made aware that they may not get their money's worth out of the site. Or perhaps the admins should at least do us the courtesy of removing the premium features that constantly break if they're not willing to maintain them.

At some point, we're all going to have to come to terms with the fact that, while the Zone is indeed a source of great entertainment, information, and networking for the blind community in particular, it will never be brought into the current age and parts of it will never work properly again. If we stop kidding ourselves that this will ever change, then I believe that the Zone can still be the vital networking tool and great source of entertainment that we all love.

Becky

P.S.: Props to the CL's that actually do give a damn.

Recently many things have been fixed.
I'm hopeful this one will also.

Wayne for CL.

HI Wayne.
TO respond to your question about CL's getting rid of other CL's, we do not have the power to do this. This is something only Chris N and J can do.
As for the rest of this stuff, well, I just do what I can to help maintain what still works. That's all the CL's who actually log in can do.

I just find it ironic that for a long time people complained about the admins selecting new CL's without any input from regular users. So they finally let people who wanted to be CL's actually campaign for the job not only by letting us know in public QN conversations what they would do as a CL but by creating board posts campaigning for the job. Then, after the new CL's were elected, at least two who campaigned very hard quickly disappeared and stopped coming on here. If they became busy with other things or found the job of CL was not to their liking, they should have contacted the admins and asked to be removed. But this has never been done to my knowledge.

Wayne and Becky's posts are gold on this issue.

OK, now it is January 20, and Anthony just told me in a public qn conversation that the non-attending CL's have been removed from the list of CLS. Yea!. This was one of my biggest pet peaves. I know it doesn't really affect my life, but I just can't understand why they campaigned hard and then disappeared after getting what they wanted.

Holy crap, they removed them? I'm impressed! Go Chris N and/or JJ! Thanks!
